Time management tips to use to help ensure your success.

The following time management tips, though simple, will help you not only with joining companies and getting more compensation, but in all areas of your life.

The objective is to help get you to: Fixate on just the key steps, get more done faster, enjoy it more, and reap more rewards (monetary, psychological, etc.).

You may recognize some of these strategies. Let them serve as a reminder of their importance.

Brainstorm it out

Brainstorm over the following ideas like crazy... dump it all out. Get it out of your head and onto a piece of paper. Go for quanity. Don't be in a judgemental mode.

Positive triggers/stimulants to help create and maintain a top state of mind.

Create a list of "positive triggers" or "natural stimulants": Things that help put you in your a great mood (sleep, certain drinks or foods, fresh air, a brisk walk, tv show, joke book, bath, clothes, smells, pictures, feel of a certain material, etc.).

Yes, try to stimulate all five senses (touch, taste, smell, sound, look). I hope I covered them all.

Some people recommend a concept known as "anchoring". That is, when you are in a great state, you would do or say something that you rarely (ideally NEVER use). The idea is to link the state with the anchor. This way you could invoke that state by using that anchor.

For example, anytime you are in a great, energetic, well rested, productive mood you might clasp your hands together and see the word "great" in your head, maybe drinking coffee and smelling it, etc.

The more unique the anchor is, the better. And the more things you use as the anchor, the better (all 5 senses).

Attitude

Don't think of tasks/steps as drudgery. Be inspired by them. Enjoy them. Contrary to what's widely peddaled (that hard work drudgery is the key to success), in reality, successful people enjoy the journey, the steps, the moment. Look at any great guitarist, athlete, whatever... those who view the steps required as drudgery probably don't make it big. They don't think of it as practice, anyway, but enjoying themselves. Those who love to play their instrument and enjoy each note have better odds of success. Every successful business owner I know of is passionate about the tasks. That is supported by research. I don't buy this idea that they view it as drudgery... they are more than rich enough and could easily quit if they hated it.

You can't do it all by yourself. Farm some things out.

Break tasks into micro steps that are easy to do.

Master list

Create a "Master List". Empty out of your mind all the goals/tasks you ever want to do.

Divide that list into long term, intermediate term, and short term. I prefer to list the "tasks" required to reach things rather than the actual "goals". We don't really need to be reminded to think about end goals, I think we all do that automatically and continually. The most successful are said to be "goal oriented" however, I find that they are more "task" oriented... doers. They fixate on the steps... the tasks, while others dream.

Ongoing task lists (daily, one a week, once a month)

Have one list of daily tasks. Have one list of tasks you do once a week (I suggest establishing a given day, say Friday, when you might be in your best mood). Have one list of tasks you do once a month (say the last day of each month).

Daily to do list

This differs from the ongoing-daily list for these are more one time things you do, not ongoing.

Every night before you sleep, empty out everything you want to do the next day. This will help you sleep, too. Then turn off your mind.

BE REALISTIC with your to do list. Don't put too many things on. And don't put things on you just know you won't attempt. At first, just list one thing. This way you get some "success momentum" and create a habit. A few experts have said that to create a new habit (automatically occuring w/o effort), it takes about 5-6 weeks of steady discipline and constant conscious awareness.

Don't get overwhelmed by these lists. Just think of one thing at a time. It'll get done!
